Feeling and looking my age. That’s ok.
The skin on my neck is the result of a childhood outside in the Southwest. The thin crinkly skin under my eyes is from my grandma, who never stopped smiling. The wrinkles at the corners of my eyes are from Chris making me laugh. The crease in my brow is from caring for my son. My grey hairs are testament to my growth and change.
My son is going away to college. My parents are becoming elderly and ill. I’m moving toward retirement, although it’s still a long way away.
I’m not old yet, and I’m not afraid.
I’m only afraid of not having the chance to be old with the people who matter.

Oh my son
We’re going to new student orientation tomorrow.
Me: “hey, Julian, you can try out your new dopp kit”
J: “my dockit?”
Me: “your dopp kit! D. O. P. P. Kit”
J: “that’s not a real word”
Me: “Two words. Yes it is. It comes from the soldiers in WWI or something”
J: “oh that doesn’t count. That’s like 100 years ago.”
…. Eye roll.
Do we stop using words just because they were invented before we were born?

The bedroom. We used to have a light brown carpet in here, which was really ratty looking. The walls were half dark maroon and half tan/pinkish. I love this cushy carpet and the new chocolate brown walls. It is so relaxing.

The family room. The most lived in room. We used to have a cream colored carpet which was really nice when we got it, but showed a lot of stains from 15 years of cats.
